Update from council leader - 19 May

Time Square - 2 June

Cllr Paul Bettison, OBE, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council, said:

This week we saw the third phase in the government’s roadmap out of lockdown begin, and I hope that it has allowed you to enjoy more freedom and see your loved ones.

This exciting step means that we can meet up in groups of up to six people, or two households indoors and you can make a personal choice on whether to keep your distance from them, but you should still be cautious.

Groups of up to 30 people can now meet outside. Social distancing guidelines will remain in place at indoor venues such as shops, hospitality, gyms, and indoor entertainment. The full list of changes to restrictions from 17 May can be found on GOV.UK.

This week is also the second of the Fostering Network’s Foster Care Fortnight™ (10 to 23 May), which seeks to raise awareness of the need for more foster carers.

In Bracknell Forest, there is a particular need for foster carers of teenagers, sibling groups and children with complex needs. Without more people coming forward to foster, children may have to live in residential institutions, or with foster families far from home. This often means children leaving their family and friends, split up from their siblings, and moving schools. Many of the children will have suffered neglect or abuse, all will have experienced trauma and loss.

We have exciting opportunities available for those who are interested in becoming foster carers, and we will be launching a pilot scheme this year to recruit specialist carers. For more information please email: fostering@bracknell-forest.gov.uk or phone 01344 352411. You can also find more information on our fostering pages.
