Boost your immunity this winter

This autumn and winter, those eligible are being urged to book their COVID-19 booster along with their annual flu jab to protect themselves, their loved ones and the NHS.

The council is working with its partners to encourage all residents to check their eligibility and book their COVID-19 booster and flu jab as soon as they can.

The COVID-19 booster is currently offered to those most at risk from coronavirus, giving them extra protection ahead of winter. These include health and social care workers, everyone over 50 and those over 16 with health conditions that put them at high risk from COVID-19.

The roll-out allows those who are eligible to receive their booster from six months after their second dose. You will be contacted when it is your turn and informed how to book your appointment.

The flu vaccine is also available to:

  • everyone over 50
  • people with certain health conditions
  • those who live with someone at risk from infections
  • carers
  • pregnant women
  • frontline health care workers

Children (up to secondary school year 11) will be offered the nasal spray version of the flu vaccine either at school or their GP surgery.

Cllr Dale Birch, Executive Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, gets his flu jab every year and encourages Bracknell Forest residents to do the same, he said:

“As the weather turns colder, more people are naturally meeting indoors. This can increase the chance of catching viruses and so it is vital that everyone eligible books their flu and COVID-19 booster jabs. It is not necessary to get these at the same time, so you can get your flu jab straight away and then your booster once it has been six months after your second vaccination. Let’s boost our immunity this winter and protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

To book your flu jab you will need to contact your GP or your local pharmacy. Six months after your second COVID-19 vaccination, those eligible will be contacted to book their booster appointment. If you have not received an invite after 6 months, you can book on the NHS website.
